Women's Temperance League
This is the new sign I made for our kitchen beam.
It cracks me up.......
On the other side is a sign for "fresh flowers".
So.....depending on who we are expecting for company,
we can easily flip the sign.
I have more boards
and would like to make a couple more.......
Any ideas?

THE GREAT PEA EXPERIMENT!
In The Garden..........................
5 inches!
For those who don't know, I planted these peas
January 8 as an experiment because the weather was so mild.
Almost immediately snow started falling everywhere!!
and SOME people blamed me, ha!
saying it was because I planted my peas so early.
I did think maybe they would rot because we have had so much rain...
but they are looking good!
We actually have a bit of sun today, although yesterday
it rained buckets.

HILL OF CROSSES
Located in Lithuania........................
The Hill of Crosses is located in northern Lithuania
and over the years has become a National Pilgrimage center.
The tradition of placing crosses here dates back to the 14th century originally,
(I came across a few different dates while researching)
and probably arose as a symbol of Lithuanian defiance of foreign invaders.
In more recent times when Soviet Russia controlled it, the hill was leveled by
bulldozers three times...1961, 1973, and 1975.
The crosses were burned or turned to scrap metal and the area covered with waste and sewage.
Each time the Hill arose again when local inhabitants and pilgrims from
all over Lithuania rapidly replaced crosses on the hill.
Finally left in peace the sacred hill is now visited each year
by thousands of pilgrims, a good many of them leaving crosses,
some in memory of loved ones.
Pope John Paul II visited the Hill of Crosses in September of 1993.
On windy days breezes blow through the crosses and hanging rosaries
producing their own unique music.
There are several videos on the internet that people
have posted of their visit to The Hill of Crosses,
and all have merit.
I have picked THIS ONE as my favorite because of the history
and the interviews with the local people.
I don't have a "bucket list" of places to visit,
but if I did....The Hill of Crosses would be on the list.

SHE CHARMED ME..........
She has a little pout going on...................
Probably because she had to get her hair curled
within an inch of her life, and put that checkered dress on.
I bet she hated getting dressed up and having her picture taken.
This was fun to make because most
of the "charms" were gifts
from friends.
Besides the coins I included a crucifix from Lourdes ,
religious medals, watch fob, vintage bits of chain,
old steel cut links, rosary beads, Baltic amber,
and of course the old tintype of "Smiley".

Slim Pickings.....
This was about the most interesting find from this weekend,
some sort of Masonic plaque.
A cigar box and some tins to feed my
obsession.
The tag on these said "Asian chess pieces"????
They all come apart and I think are
destined to show up later as part of "something else."
Weird, but I couldn't resist them.
I found this hat form,
thought it would fit the fencing mask
I bought a while back.
Not really, a bit small,
"making do" until a bigger one comes along.
Sales are just starting up around here,
Felt good to get out and rummage about!!
How about you?
Did you find any treasures this weekend?
