When my daughter Lise was little, she could spend hours at the National Gallery, looking at religious icon paintings. They fascinated her -- she noticed every little detail and had questions on it all.
There are so many new icons on display everywhere; it is a real pleasure to see the wear on this icon. I think of all the loving and entreating hands that have touched it.
